OF FESTIVALS, FASHION AND 'FUSION': TIME TO PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD!

That time of the year has finally arrived when the hunt for a perfect traditional wear begins. Many a times we turn to our closets to dig out for that long forgotten traditional attire which we at some point of time may have purchased but were too embarrassed to wear among our social circles for fear of being tagged as a 'behenji' or at most found it plain boring, routine and a safe bet to wear at an Indian festivities or function. Alternately for many others it is that time of the year to replenish our stock of ethnic clothing as we go around shopping for the right fabric, design, color and fit be it at malls or online in order to get our act right and our look in sync with the festivities around us.

And so is the case with me...with jeans, tees, shirts, capris etc., Western wear dominates my fashion choices. I hardly have the patience to go shopping for an Anarkali kurta or salwar kameez and splurge on big labels when I know that I would hardly be wearing them at all. Thus formals for me is mainly gowns, long slit skirts, dresses, palazzo pants and shirts etc.

But this year on,fashion and style is all set to evolve as I get set to create an idea which is a perfect blend of minimalist and elegant, a symphony where Indian ethnic wear marries Western clothing. And I somehow get an inkling that at the end of it, you are sure to stand out as a style maverick as you put your best foot forward! But...are you ready?

I will now play your style guru as I add some sass and versatility to your ethnic outfits. This year, my festive mantra screams loud and clear - "Go Fusion"!

So girls, hold on...it's not time yet to keep your Western wear aside as I am now about to experiment, mix n match and add my personal twist (or touch as some would put it) to your overall look from Jabong - India's fashion destination!

Style Book 1

A pair of Castle's Gold Solid Palazzo Pants teamed with Ama Bella's asymmetrical  Blue Embroidered Kurti/ Rang Manch by Pantaloons Maroon Printed Kurta/ 3/4/th Sleeves Red Printed Kurta/ Shree's Olive Printed Kurta  would make for a stunning combination. Now what I like about this combo is that it breaks the mold. Generally a Palazzo pant would ideally have been worn with a shirt,Tee or polo neck. So here's the twist...how about styling your Palazzo with an Indian wear? At a first glance, anyone would think that you have worn a sharara! Shhh...but you know what's gone behind the making of this look! Check out Look Book 1 and make your pick from among the four kurtas! With the seasonal sale that's currently on at Jabong, you can get these attires at a never before price.

Style Book 2

Do you have a lot of denim jeggings and leggings in your closet? Now is the time to make the best of it this festive season. Here's the fashion twist - This Diwali you can team up some of your old denims jeggings or leggings with colorful kurtas without splurging your money on expensive buys. Alternately you can purchase a few jeggings in colors of black, gold, denims and sequins which you can then mix and match with white Embellished kurta, Multicolored prints, orange dhoti styled kurta, asymmetrical or flowing Anarkali kurtas in block prints and colors. Refer to Style Book 2 to see which look you find best.

The statement in this ensemble is when you combine a pair of denim jegging with a formal silk kurta,a pair of brown/tanned ugg/boots and accessorize your look with chunky ethnic jewelry. To get a reference on this look, here's actress Kareena Kapoor for you (see pic) who shows you how to confidently flaunt this style.

Style Book 3

Teaming layered stylish cut Kurtis with flowing crepe/silk skirts adds a twist to your wardrobe as it gives you the flexibility to contrast, mix and rejig your wardrobe to have some fun with colors and add funk to your festive look. Have a look at Style Book 3 where in I have designed five such looks from Jabong by mixing and matching Ritu Kumar's Green Embroidered Kurti with 9rasa's Green Flared Skirt, Tab 91's Black Embroidered Kurti with 9rasa's Fuchsia Flared Skirt, Aks's dhoti Orange Kurti with Biba's Orange Flared Skirt, Rage's Multi Embroidered Kurta with Biba's Pink Flared Skirt and Soup's Beige Printed Kurti with 9rasa's Blue A-Line skirt.

So what's the twist in this look? Generally your skirts are those which you reserve for wearing with a knotted tying top/ shirt etc...but I say, wear a flowing and fitting kurta and contrast it with the color of your skirt. If you think you cannot carry the contrasting look confidently, then you could wear a kurta that has shades of colors matching with your skirt.

Now to accessorize this look you could wear jhumkas, long layered bead necklace and even a colorful head gear/bandana/turban to add a Hippie twist to the festive mood. As for shoes, I imagine that sequined or colorful embroidered juttis or mojris would look just great with this ensemble.

So girls, style your hair be it braided, curls, wavy or poker straight and add some wild streaks of color too - it is sure to make heads turn and bring some oomph factor to your overall look!

With pumps in nudes, stilettos in gold and silver, colorful Patiala Juttis etc. - you can mix, match and recycle your shoes with unusual combinations to set a new trend in your fashion palette.

Ultimately it is your confidence that adds panache to your persona and a smile that dazzles which would ultimately take your style quotient a few notches higher.

It's time for that fashionista within you to evolve as you go rogue with Fusion!
